Kecksburg UFO Incident

kecksburg report

After the UFO incident that happened in Roswell in 1947 the second most known and talked about UFO incident has to be the crash that happened in 1965 in Kecksburg , Pennsylvania. On December 5, 1965 there was a mysterious crash in the town of Kecksburg that has baffled Ufologist for years. Reports would come in from a wide range of places including Canada , Ohio, Michigan , and Pennsylvania of the mysterious object moving across the sky which appeared to be on fire that displayed a kind of intelligent control in its movements.

Frances Kalp was the first person to call in an actual report on the object as she called in to a Greensburg radio station at around 6:30pm. Kalp’s report stated that she had observed an object in the sky which appeared to be on fire and had crash landed in a wooded area in Westmoreland County near her home. She decided with the crash being so close that she would try to investigate and she reportedly got within a mile or so of the crash site and reported seeing a “four pointed star type object”. The employee at the radio station who took Kalp’s call was John Murphy and he instantly called and informed the Pennsylvania State Police department of the report. The state police would contact Kalp immediately to set up a meeting in Kecksburg.

Murphy would also go out to meet Kalp to get a first hand interview. The state police arrived on scene and began to search through the wooded area where Kalp had reported the mysterious object crash landing. Once the state police had some time to search the woods two officers would emerge Carl Metz and Paul Shipco but they refused to pass along any of their findings to either Murphy or Kalp who were also at the scene. Murphy finding the lack of information from the officers as being very weird tried putting in a call to the state police office for an official statement but was told by Captain Dussia that he would have to arrive in person to get any official statement on the event. By the time Murphy would arrive at the state police office from the crash scene the U.S. Military had arrived and taken over.

The military would issue an official statement to Murphy once he arrived at the state police office saying that there was nothing found at the scene. The report as the military released it stated  “The Pennsylvania state police have completed a search of the wooded area and was confident that there was nothing what so ever in the woods”. But Murphy being the one that took the original report from Kalp and being on the scene when the state police actually done the initial search was convinced that the military was attempting to cover something up.

As Murphy was still at the scene relaying reports back to officials at his radio station he overheard a conversation between some of the state police officers who had apparently seen a very odd pulsating blue lighted object at the crash scene. Even though reports stated clearly that there was nothing found the military and officer Metz were planning a return trip to the crash site in the woods. Murphy finds a way to get permission to accompany the second search team into the woods but as soon as he arrives at the crash scene is turned away by officials and not allowed any access and is amazed as the scene becomes totally sealed off by the military.

As the military investigated more at the crash scene they came to realize that there were locals who had reached the crash scene before there arrival. UFO researcher Stan Gordon would interview some of these locals and they described seeing a bronze colored object that had a type of gold band surrounding it at the bottom and was from 9-12 feet in length. Gordan’s interviewers reported that the object was acorn shaped.

A press release would be officially issued by the military after they had finished there on site investigations and stated that  ” A meteorite was responsible for the reports of the fiery object in the sky and had crash landed in the wooded area in Kecksburg”.The report was sketchy at best and offered up more questions then answers but was vastly accepted by the public at the time as it seemed like a more likely explanation. Then the tv show “Unsolved Mysteries” would air a special program on the Kecksburg crash which would open up a new can of worms and thrust the Kecksburg incident right back into the public light and open up new investigations.

Many people looking over the reports by the local residents who claimed to see the crash site smelled a cover up by the military and interest grew. Joh Murphy who was deeply involved on the night of the event was one of the many people who set out to find the truth and was sure that the military was trying another cover up. Murphy would stay on the Kecksburg case until his death and after his death his wife would come forward with an alarming story. She claimed that Murphy had gotten to the crime scene before anyone else and had actually taken some photographs of the mysterious object but they were taken by military officials on the scene and Murphy was warned not to talk about or reveal any information about what he had seen. It would be acknowledged by members of “Project Blue Book” which was a government body that was formed to investigate UFO’s that there was an actual photo of the object at the Kecksburg crash site but it in no way could be linked to Murphy or any other source. The photo would never be released and they would leave much more questions then answers as to what actually crashed that night in Kecksburg.

Ufo experts and enthusiasts contend that the odds of a military cover up in Kecksburg are extremely likely considering the mysterious facts and reports. Kecksburg has been and will remain a hot bed for Ufologist and UFO lore for years to come , as we may never truely know what crashed that night in the woods near Kecksburg. The search and investigation continues by those who are dedicated to finding the truth , so hopefully one day some light will finally be shed over the Kecksburg incident.
